Cataract Operation in India

Mr Arumugam is 65 years old: for the past year his eyesight has deteriorated dramatically. "I wasn’t able to work in the fields or take my cattle to graze. I could not even support my family."

Luckily, we helped set up a temporary eye camp in Mr Arumugam’s village. He had an eye test which revealed that he had a cataract. He was taken by bus to the nearest eye hospital, where he was operated upon the following day. After five minutes, Mr Arumugam declared "I can see the light". He also said "I feel that I will be able to work and earn money to support my family. I want to continue farming and helping my family as much as I can."
