Help build a new life for someone

Green fingers in Bolivia

73-year-old farmer Simon Copacuro Checa was struggling to survive at his isolated farm high in the Andes.

Life is so harsh there that many younger people have moved to the cities in search of work, leaving older men and women behind to work their traditional farms. Through our international partners Help the Aged supports a local organisation which provides older farmers with small greenhouses to prolong the growing season and enable more vegetables to be grown.

Simon is very proud of his work and says: 'Our food is much more interesting, we've incorporated the vegetables into our usual diet of potatoes. The vegetables give the body more strength.'
